Burden posted elite efficiency metrics as a rookie — 78% catch rate, 10.8 yards per target, 7.3 yards after catch — on minimal volume. DJ Moore's departure opens the target tree.
The rookie baseline, in extremely limited touches
Luther Burden III finished his first NFL season as the 90th fantasy receiver with 127.9 PPR points across 15 games, averaging 8.5 per contest. That is barely rosterable production, and it reflects what happens when a rookie sees the field but does not see targets: he caught 29 of 37 passes thrown his way for 361 yards and 3 touchdowns.
What makes him projectable for 2026 is not what he scored but how he scored it. Among all qualifying receivers, he ranked top-five in catch rate at 78%, top-five in yards per target at 10.8, and top-five in yards after catch at 7.3. Those are not rookie numbers with caveats attached. Those are premier-separator metrics on a player the Bears simply did not feature.
His best week came in Week 17 with 27.8 points. His worst was 0.7 in the opener. Eleven of his 15 games finished under 10 PPR points, and only one cleared 20. The weekly profile of a rookie who plays special teams and runs four routes a game is not useful for projecting 2026, except to note that the efficiency floor was never the problem.
He ranked top-five among receivers in catch rate, yards per target, and yards after catch as a rookie. The projection is not about him improving. It is about Chicago giving him the ball.
What DJ Moore's exit opens
Moore commanded a 25% target share in Chicago last season and is now in Denver. That is 140 vacated targets in an offense that finished 18th in pass attempts, and Burden is the most credentialed receiver left on the depth chart. The sportsbooks project him for 64.5 receptions, 850 yards, and 7 touchdowns, which would require roughly 95 targets if his catch rate holds.
