How we generate picks, track performance, and deliver betting insights

The Betting Insider combines AI-powered analytics, real-time public betting data, and transparent performance tracking to help bettors make informed decisions. Our approach is rooted in data science, market analysis, and responsible gambling practices.

Data Sources

SportsDataIO Integration

We aggregate data from 150+ sportsbooks to provide real-time odds, line movement, and public betting splits. This includes:

  • Opening and current lines (spread, moneyline, totals)
  • Public betting percentages (bets placed & money wagered)
  • Line movement history and sharp money indicators
  • Consensus odds across major sportsbooks

Proprietary Analytics

Our in-house models track:

  • Historical trends and situational data (e.g., rest days, home/away splits)
  • Player props and injury impact analysis
  • Team performance metrics (offensive/defensive efficiency, pace, etc.)
  • Referee tendencies (fouls, pace, over/under rates)

Pick Generation Process

Step 1: Trend Identification

Our Builder tool scans thousands of historical games to identify high-value trends based on factors like:

  • Team matchups (e.g., "Team A is 12-3 ATS when playing Team B at home")
  • Situational spots (back-to-backs, revenge games, division matchups)
  • Player availability and injury impact

Step 2: Public Betting Analysis

We analyze public betting splits to detect:

  • Public fades: When 70%+ of bets are on one side, but the line moves the opposite way
  • Sharp money: When a smaller percentage of bets represents a majority of the money
  • Vegas signals: Line movement that contradicts public betting patterns

Step 3: Expert Review

Our analysts review model outputs alongside:

  • Recent team news (injuries, trades, coaching changes)
  • Weather conditions (for outdoor sports)
  • Market context (is the line value still available?)

Picks are published on Today's Picks with full transparency:we track every pick, every day, and publish our results publicly.

Signal Detection

We identify three types of betting signals:

Public

70%+ of public bets are on one side. These are "fade the public" opportunities.

Vegas

Line movement contradicts public betting. Example: 80% of bets on Team A, but the line moves toward Team B.

Whale

Sharp money alert. A minority of bets (e.g., 30%) represents the majority of dollars (e.g., 60%).

These signals are displayed on Public Betting pages and used to inform our picks.

Performance Tracking

Transparency is core to our mission. We track:

  • Daily pick results (Win/Loss/Push) with public grading
  • Return on Investment (ROI) assuming flat-unit betting
  • Units won/lost across all sports and markets
  • Signal performance (how Public/Vegas/Whale signals perform over time)
