What is a Pinnacle lean?

Pinnacle is the sportsbook professional bettors respect most. It takes big limits from sharp players and moves its lines quickly when the money tells it something, so its prices are widely treated as the closest thing to a true number on a game.

A Pinnacle lean is our attempt to read what Pinnacle actually thinks will happen. We track every time Pinnacle moves its line and its odds through the day, compare its price with every other sportsbook, and show which side of the spread, total, moneyline or player prop Pinnacle is leaning toward.

How a lean is built

  • Movement: Has Pinnacle made a side more likely since the opening line? We count both the number and the juice.
  • Market gap: Does Pinnacle price that side as more likely than other sportsbooks do? We remove each book’s margin first so the comparison is fair.

This is our read of what Pinnacle’s prices suggest, not access to their model. Prices also react to betting action and news.

How to read the board

  • Slight, Lean, Strong, Max: How strong the lean is. Strong and Max require Pinnacle to have moved toward that side, not just priced it differently.
  • Stable: Pinnacle has only ever leaned this side. It has never flipped.
  • Flipped earlier: Pinnacle leaned the other way, but only before game day.
  • Flipped today: Pinnacle switched sides on game day. Those have done worse, so we flag them as ones to skip.
  • +EV at X books: A separate check: the sportsbooks where you can still get a good price on the side Pinnacle leans.

Pinnacle Leans FAQ

Why follow Pinnacle instead of other sportsbooks?

Most US sportsbooks limit winning players and copy lines from the market. Pinnacle welcomes sharp action and moves on it, so where Pinnacle moves and how it prices a game versus everyone else is one of the clearest windows into what professional money thinks.

What does a Stable Pinnacle lean mean?

Stable means Pinnacle has only ever leaned that side of the market. It has never flipped to the other side, which makes it a more consistent read than a lean that has switched back and forth.

Is a Pinnacle lean a guaranteed winner?

No. A lean is a read of how the sharpest book is pricing a game, not a guarantee. Lines also move on news and public action, so use leans alongside price shopping and the rest of your research.

Do Pinnacle leans cover player props?

Yes. The board reads Pinnacle’s pricing on player props as well as spreads, totals and moneylines, with the same strength and Stable labels.
