Tulane's Defense Is a Mess, Southern Miss Is Worse — Fading Both Sides of This Number

Let's start with what the data actually shows before building a narrative around it.

Tulane is averaging 17 points per game, ranked #109 nationally. Their offense runs 29.3 times per game (#113) for 4.1 yards per carry (#64), and their passing game produces just 193.7 yards per game (#89) on a 56.4% completion rate (#111). This is one of the worst defenses in the country by any measure.

So why isn't this a clean Tulane cover? On the total, the 1.5-point drop from 54 to 52.5 with 61% of public money on the Over is reverse line movement, and it's the clearest signal in this game. The market is pricing a lower-scoring outcome despite public enthusiasm for the Over. Given Tulane's offensive limitations and a defense that has been exploitable, however, the Under is far from a lock.
